Strengths:
+ Strong gapclosing options
+ Max HP % damage on boosted autos make you a problem for front and backlines
+ On-demand defensive cd lets you choose when to mitigate dmg
+ Missing HP % dmg Unite great for objective secures
Weaknesses:
– Poor early and not having access to each stance’s stat boosts until level 7 makes playmaking or surviving very difficult
– Very frail in sword form, very weak in shield form. Getting caught in the wrong form can be disastrous
– High committal engages, you either succeed or you die
Build + Gameplay
*You can swap out Razor for Weight and swap Resonant Guard for Cookie , or just keep it the same for consistency. Honedge does take quite a beating from stacking.*
Razor Claw
Aegislash has a considerably high Attack stat as one of the perks of his Sword Form passive, so this plays naturally into Razor Claw’s proc, which scales on attack. You use a sword move, are shifted into sword form with high attack, and immediately use a big fat boosted auto coupled with a Razor proc for big burst. Helps a lot with his divey-assassin nature.
Weakness Policy
This big attack buff in Sword ALSO plays into Weakness Policy. Stance swapping seems to be made for this item, since you can tank a ton of hits while in Shield form, get that Weakness stacked all the way up, and carry those stacks over into Sword form once you engage for a big boost. It’s beautiful.
Resonant Guard
Big chunk of flat HP, and a nice shield to help you survive in between stance swaps. The shield also stacks on top of Wide Guard shield, and really plays well into the ebb and flow of how Aegis likes to participate in fights. Focus Band is also a perfectly fine replacement here if you find yourself doing more frequent all-in dives and killing a certain backliner is make or break.
Honorable Mention: Muscle Band
Muscle assist with faster jungle clear times, and gives some decent dueling power early on before you get your stance swapping power, both of which Honedge/Doublade struggle with greatly. It generally won’t be used much unless an invade or a lot of early game dueling is expected to occur, especially since the Muscle proc on Aegis boosteds have poor returns, since it’s calculated after the auto damage AND the % max HP portion that his own boosted does.
Scope Lens(Shadow Claw Only)
Used specifically for Shadow Claw. Shadow Claw itself is capable of critting, and since it’s 3 separate hits it rolls 3 separate times for a crit. Scope helps that happen a lot more often, and while the dumb + upgrade of this move is still only 1 second, Scope also helps bring your crit chance post-Shadow Claw+ from 30% to 36%. Critting any part of this combo can mean the difference of winning a fight you have no business winning.
Please note that using unite puts you into Sword form automatically so think about where/when you use it, because you can get smacked very easily.
Moveset 1 - Best
Sees some top lane play but mostly goes jungle.
Generally you wanna spend most of your time in shield form (when not farming), only switching to sword when committing for a kill or using Sacred to cc/chase. If you get caught out in sword form you are 100000% dead you are made of literal paper. Success with Aegis will come from how fluent you are with deciding when to go in with Sacred and rattle off boosted autos, and flowing back into shield form.
The Unstoppable and greater CC provided by Wide Guard will always be relevant and will always have a place when determining matchup pros and cons, so neither one here is going to be an “always pick this” situation.
Shield form boosted auto heal for a shit ton and Wide Guard blocks pretty much all incoming dmg when anticipated, that’ll allow you to rack up your Weakness stacks and stay in the thick of it.
If enemies are grouped up, you can Sacred into em (dash will put you behind em), turn around and Wide Guard bump em towards your team in a pseudo-Lax Block fashion but faster.
What’s Up With Iron Head:
Iron Head has a 1.8 sec cd on if hit during activation, assuming blue buff. This gives a ton of boosted basic charges, which a steadier supply of gives more freedom to expend then on shield boosted basics, which not only increases sustain through healing but also lowers Sacred Sword’s even lower new cooldown, which even FURTHER increases your boosted generation again, and feeds into itself in a loop. Aegislash becomes a meat grinder with high boosted auto generation, and more flexibility to stance swap on demand precisely when needed. You can spam on cooldown if no danger is imminent for non-stop DPS, but you can also hold onto your Iron Head for precisely when you expect a large hit to come in and carry on.
You should very rarely be left with less than 2 boosted charges at any given time, and should be generating them even when out of combat by using Iron Head while traveling to your next destination.
Moveset 2
Low cd/button-mashing crit build. Currently not fantastic due to Shadow Claw only granting 1 boosted auto stack regardless of number of targets hit, and crit buff lasting a pathetic 1 sec, like I really don’t understand what goes thru Timi’s head when they plan this stuff. But anyway this set is pretty decent at 1v1 dueling due to Shadow Claw knocking ppl up every 3 seconds and Iron Head nullifying a move every 5 secs…but all in all Sacred Wide provides way more for a team and can practically match the same low cooldown spam nature if woven properly with Iron Head.
