Strengths:
+ Good secure in early game and no heavy reliance on stacking allows it to duel more freely in lane
+ Able to flex freely between top lane and jungle effectively
+ Excellent lvl 5 spike with either move option, giving it great kill pressure or Altaria contention power
+ Gets stronger in prolonged engagements thanks to passive wounds increasing all damage by 15% when fully stacked
+ Has strong self sustain and group presence with Bitter Blade
+ Very powerful outplay and avoidance potential with Phantom Force, can survive some very difficult to avoid moves and matchups
+ Can choose to be a great squishy assassin with Psycho Cut that also serves as great objective shred
+ EXTREMELY powerful game-deciding Unite move
Weaknesses:
– No CC or disruption presence to speak of
– Requires some ramp up time to get to peak damage output
– Relatively low bulk for his role
– No active mitigation and Bitter heal being delayed makes him susceptible to burst
Build + Gameplay
Curse Bangle :
Yes, passive burn damage ticks proc Curse! A high amount of flat Attack combined with near constant uptime on the Curse debuff makes this great for Ceruledge, especially since his time-to-kill is relatively high, so the more healing he can mitigate with it over time the easier of a time he has getting his targets down to kill ranges.
Energy Amp :
It’s no hidden tip or secret that Ceruledge’s Unite is absolutely insane, both in range of use and damage. That thing can completely turn the tide of an aggressive push for your team or fully stop a push by the enemy, and adding Amp buff on top of it makes it almost guarantee to oneshot the backline, if not immediately after with the move you follow it up with (which will also be Amp boosted, btw). The flat CDR on the item also is greatly appreciated for greater moveset flow of course.
Razor Claw :
Ceruledge has that lovely effect of being granted a boosted basic after any move usage, which lines up perfectly with proccing Razor with it since boosted basics have increased range as well. It’s a great extra oomph of burst thrown into your combo rotation and flows very well with your hit-n-run play, and of course great stats to boot. This is usually swapped between Weight and Muscle depending on your first move choice, but Razor is great for flexing between both seamlessly. PS, the 15% boosted from fully stacked Weak Armor passive also applies to Razor’s proc damage.
Muscle Band :
While this item does benefit both movesets decently, it’s generally more geared towards the Psycho Cut/Flame Charge set as a basic attack-based set. Ceruledge’s boosted is a double-hit auto meaning two Muscle procs per boosted, and with Flame Charge greatly boosting attack speed this goes along with that to get a ton of Muscle procs and further lower Psycho’s CD. Really good option into bulkier comps or if your team has no objective rip to speak of. PS, the 15% boosted from fully stacked Weak Armor passive also applies to Muscle’s proc damage.
Attack Weight :
Really only a consideration for Bitter Blade sets, Bitter doesn’t have *fabulous* ratio scaling, but since the healing is based on the damage done of the move, beefing up the hit also beefs up the heal return, and when hitting multiple targets it certainly adds up to a noticeable amount. Anytime you can get a double investment with one item it’s always a great value. It also helps with Unite move’s great scaling, though with Amp being involved it’s more of a second thought there. Also, with fully stacked Weak Armor passive, Bitter’s effective scaling becomes 230%.
Moveset 1 - Best
Psycho Cut will be the set that gives Ceruledge his main carry potential as a deadly backline assassin, as well as providing some nice shredding utility against frontliners as well as objectives.
What’s good about Psycho Cut builds is that the items it likes lend themselves very well to early game power, which leads us to…
Early Game :
Charcadet isn’t as hopeless as his tiny diminutive body may suggest. Both of his starting moves and passive give him the ability to flex pretty freely between jungle and laning (though jungling is generally preferred due to the level 5 spike being so influential).
If you are laning, both of your starter moves lend very well to both safely ripping and securing wild farm.
The main thing you’ll want to keep track of is your Flame Body passive meter, which will add a chunk of damage to your next basic attack when full. Ideally, the best secure Charcadet can do is Lava Plume > boosted basic, since that basic attack will be buffed both from Lava Plume’s 15% effect after use, as well as your Flame Body passive meter. Combine this double-boosted basic also with a Razor Claw proc and/or Muscle Band proc, and the combined damage easily surpasses over 900 nearly instantly. This circles back to the early power item build that Psycho builds love.
Be sure to use that B-button (or Advanced Controls wild mon button on mobile) to assure you are directing that boosted basic damage onto the wild mon. Ideally you also want to try to make Lava Plume hit the opposing player and the farm at the same time when securing, so in the event you fail the secure attempt, you at least apply immediate pressure onto them and can aggress in return, if their health bars warrant it.
The Flame Body meter fills on a 4 second timer, so you need to decide if you need to rip the farm yourself and expend that proc in the beginning, or if the farm is being hit by external sources that will let you hold onto that proc for when it is time to last-hit it.
That same decision making process also applies to Take Down usage, where its attack speed buff greatly helps with burning down farm quickly to help get it off the map before the opposing side can get within range to contest it…however you need to determine if you are in a position where you can use that dash for ripping or if you are in a spot where you need to preserve it as a disengage/safety.
Plume+auto burst along with Take Down atk speed also makes Charcadet a respectable dueler, so you can also choose to go the route of a fight lane, where you aim to punish their approaches to secure things by taking as much of their HP down as possible and discouraging continued approaches, or stacking attempts by them. Just keep an eye on the game timer to anticipate possible gank times and not be caught out of position in the process.
Mid Game and Beyond :
Getting your level 5 is a huge power spike, both from jungle and from lane, because not only do you get your main damage move upgrade, but you gain access to your Weak Armor passive (both the burn tick and the damage buff when stacked), AND 20% free lifesteal upon evolving. Because of all of these combined, you are able to *heavily* aggress and apply tons of pressure as soon as you evolve, PROVIDED YOU KNOW WHERE THE ENEMY JUNGLER IS. Having Curse Bangle equipped makes this pressure exceedingly oppressive, since it causes the enemies to hardly get any solace from it on their own goalpads either.
Psycho Cut on its own is a large chunk of damage and can serve as good secure, however it is relatively low range so keep that in mind. Ceruledge has the great gift of being granted a boosted basic after each move usage, and since his boosted basic is two hits, working around this is essential in stacking up those Weak Armor marks efficiently. So a normal rotation of Psycho Cut > boosted basic is already 3 stacks of passive, you’re halfway there to max. Boosted basics also have quite a bit of lunge distance to them, so they are capable of following a target if/when they choose to retreat after eating a Psycho Cut.
Another tech to take advantage of that lunge is if a target you want to jump on is a bit too far and your gapclosers are on cooldown, you can use Psycho on thin air to give yourself a free boosted basic, which will then allow you to jump on them in an emergency pinch.
