Strengths:
+ Strong early game with a great mix of good secure and lane fighting tools, such as Branch Poke and autos providing HP recovery
+ Built in Focus Band with Trevenant’s passive, Natural Cure, which makes Trevenant gain HP recovery when entering low HP. This greatly helps Trevenant extend itself further in lane and keep itself alive for more CC uptime
+ Provides large area of effect crowd control which make it extremely difficult for melee characters to enter Trevenant’s range
+ Wood Hammer and Horn Leech help group up enemies for ranged backliner follow up, setting up great engages
+ Lots of self healing which allows it to heal out of battle and be less reliant on support
+ Strong ult big circle that knockup and stun :)
+ Very versatile tank with a lot of good matchups
Weaknesses:
– Evolution barrier at level 5 can provide some difficulty in coming online even if you are ahead and wearing EXP Share
– Weak to anti heal
– Limited range, prone to getting pelted with poke and ranged abilities
– Massive green fart
Build + Gameplay
EXP Share (Core)
As the frontline of the team, Trevenant loses most of its opportunities to make plays in terms of damage and kills, which means that it greatly benefits from the passive EXP. The tank and support positions don’t need the EXP to be effective anyways. Broken item put the hat on!!!!
Resonant Guard
Resonant Guard has become a premier tank item with its ability to provide really notable sustain for the user and for nearby allies, while also providing flat HP which helps your own self heals. Become tanky and good.
Buddy Barrier
Buddy Barrier provides the option for your ult to be able to be used to save allies and add to your ability to protect backliners. It also gives you a significant sustain boost when ulting which is incredibly useful to Trevenant’s all-in playstyle.
** Swap Buddy Barrier out for Focus Band if an enemy Umbreon is present**

Early Game
Trevenant’s Basic Moves
Will-O-Wisp
Trevenant’s main secure is Will-O-Wisp, which has basically zero windup and has really solid damage, which makes it a great secure to be coordinated with your lane partner. It also has a short cooldown and provides burn, which helps anti stack enemies and provides really nice damage when fighting enemies.
Branch Poke
Branch Poke serves as a great versatile tool in the early game giving Trevenant mobility or a means to heal while dealing some damage. Trevenant best uses Branch Poke to heal while farming to stay healthy and to preserve berries for more dire situations.
Trevenant’s Unite Move – Phantom Forest
Trevenant best uses its unite move in a couple of straight forward ways.
When taking substantial damage, Trevenant’s unite move can be used as a panic button for instant survivability. Buddy Barrier shields, unite move shields, and a shield effect when this unite move hits an enemy allows Trevenant to rack up an insane amount of shields. While Trevenant has it’s Phantom Forest shields active, it also receives increased healing.
Since Trevenant lacks range itself, and commonly has to deal with the frontline. When Trevenant’s ally backliners are being dived, Phantom Forest can be used as a way for Trevenant to aid allies and provide Buddy Barrier to fend off divers. The knockup gives Trevenant time to get within range and unleash its deadly crowd control combo. This works as an engage as well, gaining the most of the shields and disabling many opposing pokemon while Trevenant gains movement speed for a short time. This allows Trevenant to greatly set up for its low range moves.
When playing Wood Hammer + Horn Leech or Wood Hammer + Pain Split, your job is to act as an unmoving wall which also deals significant damage constantly putting enemies in their place. This is the best build for Trevenant.
The Woodshop ( Wood Hammer Tips )
Trevenant’s Wood Hammer is an extremely powerful move which provides a MASSIVE on demand stun, making it extremely hard for enemies to pass through Trevenant’s effective range. Opposing pokemon hit by the first cast of Wood Hammer are pulled together to the center of the half circle, meaning that when multiple enemies are hit, they are perfectly grouped up for other aoe abilities. The pushing effect of Wood Hammer can also be used for sideways grabs depending on the direction that it is aimed, which is actually really useful in putting enemies in unfavorable positions, while you are allowed to have a large range of control over where enemies are placed.
This is the usual Wood Hammer approach which is still great for catching as many enemies as possible. This is also useful for keeping enemies in place and grouping enemies properly for that nasty Espeon’s Psyshock of Venusaur’s Verdant Anger or Solar Beam.
This approach allows you to pull enemies to the side allowing you to pull enemies closer to your team. As you can see, you can pull enemies off of goal zones to prevent them from gaining further shield or health.
Eject Button into Wood Hammer is also extremely strong, but it has some notable varying interactions as a two part move. First cast of Wood Hammer does not change direction based on Eject Button’s direction, but second cast DOES change direction based on where Eject Button is aimed. Additionally there is windup in both casts, which give you ample time to use Eject Button and quickly stun enemies. It’s usually the most value when using Eject with first cast, as the grouping effect of first cast can lead to devastating team wipes or damage.
The first cast direction stays the same regardless of where your Eject Button is aimed.
The second cast changes direction to where you have aimed your Eject Button.
Horn Leech vs Pain Split
Horn Leech
Horn Leech allows Trevenant to charge forward while unstoppable, dragging enemies that are hit to the end of the dash. When an enemy or wild pokemon are hit, Trevenant gains max HP percent healing and provides a short knockup at the end of the dash. Trevenant’s next three basic attacks lower the cooldown of Horn Leech by 0.5 second. This gives Trevenant extremely strong crowd control presence.
The use case for this move is mostly in melee-heavy matchups, since in combination with Wood Hammer, it is extremely easy to catch multiple bodies with wide range aoes and stuns. Additionally, the unstoppable effect of this move allows you to dodge and plow through enemy abilities and keep you alive.
Pain Split
Pain Split creates a link to an enemy and Trevenant receives a variety of effects. Some of the most notable is healing when your enemy has more HP, damage mitigation and redirection, and a movement speed boost. This allows Trevenant to better act as a sponge for heavy ranged damage.
The use case for this move is when there are prominent enemy ranged characters, mostly referring to ADCs and snipers ( Both movesets of Glaceon, Cinderace, Dragapult, etc. ). The movement speed buff allows you to more easily close the gap on those characters, and the damage reflection allows you to survive significantly more, considering that ADCs apply massive single target damage and generally operate outside your range, presenting themselves as difficult matchups. The damage reflection makes it so that ADCs hitting you will effectively be dealing large amounts of damage to themselves, forcing them to disengage or be defeated. Landing a pain split flips a bad matchup into a good matchup. Against snipers, linking to an enemy tank or diver allows you to redirect the heavy damage you take towards enemy frontline, which can be extremely detrimental if played right. Additionally, you can heal massive amounts off the link on enemy tanks. Against mages, Horn Leech is usually still preferred because the unstoppable allows you to deny crowd control.
