Strengths:
+ Early evolution which allows Eevee to quickly evolve into Umbreon
+ Strong 4 spike with Mean Look as one of the most powerful and unavoidable lockdown tools
+ Mean Look creating strong protection against bruisers and assassins, while also giving options to lock down an enemy tank and take down the frontline
+ Snarl lowers Attack and Special Attack of enemies, directly lowering enemy damage
+ Strong defensive wall
+ Can steal crucial shields with Midnight Prance, creating counters for many enemy ults such as Blissey, Blastoise, Crustle, and others
Weaknesses:
– Weak eevee phase with mediocre secure
– Wish has very weak healing coverage and suffers against more frequent poke, generally low healing output
– Has lower engage than most tanks with Mean Look being so low range

Best Items for Umbreon – Held Items and Battle Item
Exp Share ( Core )
Exp Share is an absolutely monstrous item which generates WAY too much EXP for the user’s lane partner to hit their power spikes as soon as possible along with their team after laning phase. Umbreon doesn’t net kills often and does not need many levels, making Exp Share a perfect fit for it.
Resonant Guard ( Core )
Resonant Guard just provides a nice shield boost for more bulk, using Umbreon’s fat defender statline and HP. This also works well in lane for providing big shields for the relative level of bulk in early game, to help Umbreon in pushing lanes and take space. The flat +450 HP stat is massive and stacks beautifully with Buddy’s flat HP to make both items generate bigger shields, which helps a lot as well.
Buddy Barrier ( Flex )
Buddy Barrier is useful for when you are forced to ult, providing yourself with some bulk as Umbreon ult provides meager shields on its own. This serves as insurance for when you cannot setup for a shield steal Midnight Prance and allows you to use your Unite when YOU want to, rather than always waiting for an enemy’s shield to pop up first. The flat +450 HP is also universally helpful to all builds of course.
Other Slot Candidates
Attack Weight ( Wish Oriented )
Wish’s scaling ratio has been brought up high enough to where stacking Weight gives substantial healing increases. This turns Wish Umbry into a VERY formidable healer and can fulfill that slot on a team and open up more varied comps with less burden.
Weakness Policy ( Wish Non-Stacking ) The healing increase provided by Weakness is practically dead even with what Hood would give, while also giving flat HP to Umbreon (better than defensive stats) and also giving a bit of damage pad to his other moves. It does involve you taking hits to stack it up but it overall provides more value in multiple facets than something like Hood would in the long run.
Honorable Mention: Rescue Hood ( Wish Non-Stacking )
Wish healing with Hood falls slightly under 3 stacks of Weight at levels 6-11, and levels 12-15 is surpassed by 4 stacks. Hood becomes a passable low-risk low-effort alternative when playing deep-lying support where you can’t afford taking stacks from others and a large portion of your heals go to others and not yourself. Being able to match 4 stacks of Weight’s output without any effort on your art and being able to fully devote to protection is a rather good perk to have. On Foul Play where you are engaging more and serving as frontline more yourself the self-heal difference will be greater.
Honorable Mention: Aeos Cookie ( Tank Oriented )
Aeos Cookie provides a lot of individual bulk with the increased HP effects, but also compounds with Umbreon’s boosted attack healing as well as Snarl’s shield ( 15% Max HP ), and Wish’s damage reduction. This, however, relies of the user diligently stacking to get value. Umbreon best synergizes with the held item in order to get the best raw bulk out of any other item. Going for early stacks also plays into Umbreon’s desire to hit level 4 as soon as possible, which a slipping a cheeky stack or 2 two will expedite.
This item works best with Tank Snarl Umbreon, as you will be most prone to having to sponge damage, and increases your bulk by leaps and bounds.
Assault Vest ( Support Oriented niche )
Assault Vest provides great anti poke value by increasing your Special eHP by a fat amount. It’s also easily renewable outside and during fights to gain some health back without the help of a healer. Other held items like Focus Band and Aeos Cookie lack the ability to be easily renewable. The added Special Defense also helps your endurance in general as well. The flat HP stats also help.
This item works best with Support Umbreon since you do not sit in the frontline and can avoid taking damage while using Mean Look and Wish and dealing no damage as well. This allows for you to easily play passive and regain your Assault Vest shield.!
How to Play Umbreon in Pokemon Unite
Early Game
In short, Umbreon’s early game is pretty abysmal. You’re saved by the fact that it has a very short period of suffering with an early level 4 evolution and powerspike. Fake Tears serves as your best secure move with actually great startup and frame data, but it has very mediocre damage. Umbreon also struggles to deal damage with Swift being extremely low damage and Fake Tears being just alright. Umbreon’s autos are also quite weak.
Swift allows Umbreon’s movement speed to be increased when it is near an enemy with a Swift mark, allowing for some sticking power and healing, as its basic attack becomes a boosted attack when hitting the marked enemy.
you are a little rat eevee that does nothing else. you have little rip, little fight, and a very mid secure.
Umbreon’s Unite Move – Midnight Prance
Umbreon’s ult serves 3 functions which makes it very powerful and versatile. good ult 10 out of 10.
Shield Stealing
Umbreon’s Midnight Prance is able to take the shields of nearby enemies. Many enemies have ults that generate an absolutely copious amount of shield that when stolen, gives Umbreon a shield for immense value.
and others that use buddy barrier ( tanks, supports, etc )
Stun Engaging
In the event when you see a enemy carry out of position or grouped up enemies, Midnight Prance serves as a very fast reacting stun to pokemon in the area around dealing damage to opposing pokemon.
Panic Button
when you are dying you press button because yes, as after using its unite Umbreon ‘s movement speed is increased, and you gain some shields as well
Foul Play???
Foul Play has been nerfed and buffed many different times but is currently very close to its former glory. Umbreon attacks by lunging at an opposing pokemon which deals increased damage based on the attack of the opposing pokemon hit in the first stage of the ability, and then Umbreon sweeps in front of it with its tail, providing a momentary stun with the second stage. While Foul Play gives Umbreon a very aggressive divey identity as a tank, it lacks the guaranteed shutdown nature to assure a successful peel on a dive which is Mean Look. So need to read what your team is in need of more.

The Scowler ( Mean Look + Wish / Mean Look + Snarl )
Umbreon is strong. Too strong. Umbreon is a defender in pokemon unite as well as a very stupid Pokemon that can flex between both the support and tank role and do both pretty well. The tank role Umbreon uses multiple movesets ( Foul Play + Snarl, Mean Look + Wish, Mean Look + Snarl ), while the support role Umbreon uses only Mean Look + Wish. When you play as Umbreon,
As tank Umbreon, your job is to act as strong defensive wallk which creates pressure with the sheer threat of being caught in Mean Look and Umbreon’s disapproving gaze, while also flexing to take care of priority threats against your backliners.
As support Umbreon, your job is to act as a personal body guard absolutely focusing on protecting backliners from divers and assassins since unlike tank Umbreon, you do not have to lead the team into battle. You also focus on keeping the team alive with Wish.
Tank Umbreon
While Mean Look is a very powerful defensive tool to peel allies and lockdown priority threats, it also has a deceptively strong engaging abilities. As a tank Umbreon, you stand in the frontline, being mindful of possible threats that try to get to your backline, but also punish mispositions from enemies as well. For instance, you can use Mean Look on an enemy tank and allow your team to do substantial damage to them. Killing an enemy tank greatly disrupts team structure and reduces the options of the enemy team to take fights against your team.
Foul Play is a more aggressive approaching tool that gives Umbreon quite a bit of reach into enemy lines, and helps it initiate engages on its own terms and get the ball rolling. Foul Play can also be used mid-Snarl, to reposition the AoE to get more targets within the stun circle.
Keep in mind that while you are great at locking down threats, you are the frontline of the team and walking too far back can end up leaving your team exposed.
Support Umbreon
As a support Umbreon, you have the best tool to absolutely make an enemy diver mald out of their mind, which is Mean Look. You walk around in the backline gaining vision for flanks or side angles that the enemy is trying to take, while also topping your allies and tank off with Wish healing and damage reduction. One of your main goals is to avoid grouping up and taking too much collateral damage or damage yourself, as Wish healing is only single target and struggles to keep up with other healers when multiple allies are in need of healing.
About Mean Look
When Umbreon enters the Mean Look lockdown area, its basic attacks become boosted allowing Umbreon to deal some substantial damage. Umbreon’s boosted attack also restores hp ( 10% Missing HP ) per hit. Umbreon makes all rounders and speedsters cry.
About Wish
Wish provides damage reduction which is extremely useful for negating poke and also providing a lot of sustain for targeted ally pokemon that are actively taking damage. Try to prioritize allies that are actively taking damage or fighting such as your tank in the neutral phases, or your bruisers and divers that are in the thick of a fight.
Aim Wish at no one to make it go on yourself, which is extremely useful on tank Umbreon sets where you can prevent a lot of damage by sponging with the Wish damage reduction active at the right times.
Pick this moveset on tank Umbreon when your team has more frontline presence in the top lane role, and would benefit from the extra healing.
About Snarl
Let out your inner animal. Umbreon starts ranting about something in the area around it unable to be hindered, decreasing attack and special attack by 4% for a set amount of time for a max of 6 times of opposing pokemon in the area, resulting in a possible total 24%. Umbreon lets loose a final shout leaving opposing pokemon it hits around it unable to act and further decreasing their attack and special attack by 20%. If you hit a substantial part of this ability on an enemy, they are left with 44% reduced attack and special attack, which greatly reduces their damage. This is extremely useful in protecting your priority allies by reducing the damage enemies deal, or you can mess up enemy secures by reducing their damage and making them fail or miss secure breakpoints.
Additionally, Snarl provides Umbreon with a large shield and unstoppable, which allows you for you to dodge important crowd controls and hindrances from opposing pokemon and making Umbreon able to tank substantial damage.
Pick this move on Umbreon when your team needs a hard frontliner, since Umbreon would be acting as the crucial frontliner.
