Because of the random targeting of Stored Power when there’s more than 1 target in range, this move is considerably worse than Psyshock specifically at farm secure and bursting, however with some split jungle ganks and/or early pressure it provides good rushdown damage that forces enemies on the backpedal and makes for some easy dunks to widen the experience gap in its own way, which is essential for how the 4 gank setup wants to operate. Once you get Psybeam, your single target securing becomes much better and you are able to spread your damage in groups much more effectively.
Mechanically, Stored Power builds up one blast every 2 seconds passively, and then another one for every target hit by a boosted auto attack for a maximum of 5 blasts stored at once. This means that if you’re using Stored Power and throwing out auto attacks on cooldown, you won’t be able to tap into the move’s full potential without waiting. It still does fairly respectable damage, but it should be worth noting if you’re trying to set up a big burst.
However, what this has going for it is still fairly unique. Due to it being a sure hit that also slows, it can be very bothersome for more mobility focused characters to deal without having to be really good at hitting Psyshock. On top of that, you get a pretty short but big speed boost when casting this move which makes you surprisingly slippery while pumping out nice damage onto whatever just got hit.
The general idea here is that since repeated hits on the same target deal significantly reduced damage, you want to spread your Stored Power rays to as many different unique targets as possible to maxmize that first hit damage total on things. Psybeam not only shores up your single target burst needs, but also aids in spreading damage even further with the refraction beams behind the target. So you’re basically just pumping AoE damage and whittling everything down over time while being difficult to catch yourself.
About: Psyshock + Future Sight
I see this set being played.. way too often on ladder for how much less effective it is. Psyshock + Psybeam as a moveset lives and dies by doing very high amounts of burst damage very quickly, which Future Sight doesn’t do at all by being a very delayed detonation that deals low damage to targets that aren’t low HP. The aim assist is also not that helpful generally and it’s not often that it makes or breaks landing Psyshock. Just get better at aiming. Please.
If you manage to get an empowered Stored Power from knocking out a target that has Future Sight on it, the healing and additional damage can also be a big surprise to some divers…however the conditions that need to be met in order to achieve this reset are unreasonably strict, and can’t be relied on for general output.
Even if you do manage to get a reset for Psyshock, the enhanced version of Psyshock only adds AoE damage at the convergence point and doesn’t offer any extra single target damage.
What this set does offer though is much better solo objective rip, as hitting things that have Future Sight on it lowers the cooldown of Future Sight for some surprisingly good rip. Outside of this very small soloq niche though, this set is at best a crutch.
